We’re COR-Certified in B.C. — What It Means for Your Project
What is COR?
The Certificate of Recognition (COR) is a voluntary WorkSafeBC program that recognizes employers who implement an effective OHSMS and pass a certification audit. In construction, the program is delivered through the BC Construction Safety Alliance (BCCSA).
Why owners and facility teams care
- Fewer disruptions. A formal OHSMS reduces incidents and schedule impacts.
- Simpler pre-qualification. Many procurement teams in B.C. prefer or require COR for commercial construction contractors.
- Financial stability signal. COR-certified employers are considered for a WorkSafeBC incentive the year after certification (10% of base assessment premiums; small-employer minimum rules apply).

What changes on site with a COR-certified contractor
Expect: site-specific safety plans and orientations, subtrade onboarding and document control, regular toolbox talks and task hazard assessments, incident reporting with corrective actions, plus internal/maintenance audits for continuous improvement. These map to COR’s Plan-Do-Check-Act cycle.
How to verify a contractor’s COR status
Use the official WorkSafeBC COR Employer Search before award to confirm current certification.
How long COR lasts
COR is valid for three years, with annual maintenance audits; re-certification is required in year four. Details from the BCCSA process for Small COR and Large COR.
